imc CANSAS is a series of modules that convert electrical signals from sensors into CAN messages and vice versa.
These modules can be combined to form complete CAN bus based measurement and/or control systems for test benches or other industrial applications.
CANSAS is a new concept in the decentralized collection of physical measurement data. It was designed for application where signals needed to be digitized very close to their sensors. The digital information then, almost without any disturbance, can be transmitted via the CAN bus. In such an universal setup sensors are very close to the modules thus minimizing the cost of cabling substantially.
The mathematical power of the build-in 'Signal Processor' enables CANSAS modules, by real-time analysis, to intelligently perform measurements. This also minimizes the bus-load because only the processed data is put onto the bus.
The CAN bus transmits its data to devices with CAN input. Alongside automated systems this could also be CAN Data Collectors (like the imc BusDAQ), or data acquisition systems (like the imc imc Cronos-PL of imc C-Series).
CANSAS modules behave like a sensor. The module remembers its configuration and has a self-start function.
Basically CANSAS modules are suitable for a broad temprature range (Extended Ambient Temperature) -30° C to +65° C. By using coated circuitboards 100% relative humidity is not a problem anymore.
The modules power supply voltage is not very critical; it accepts voltages between 9 - 32 VDC. The modules are also power friendly. Depending on the model, power consumption is around 1 - 6 Watt.
Some applications required the measurement of many channels. CANSAS modules cna be stacked easilly without tools, or can be placed in a standard 19"rack.
